Education and Training

 

Environmental Hygiene constantly provides employees with heath and safety training.

  • Enabling staff to perform their duties safely, without hazard to themselves or our customers
  • Ensuring a safe environment for all

 

Safety Rules

 

  • Obey all safety rules and signs
  • Use protective equipment and clothing for your safety
  • Use/adjust equipment only if you are qualified to do so
  • It is an offence under the OHS Act not to use the safety equipment provided or to misuse any safety appliances

 

House Keeping -Safe Practice

 

  • A place for everything and everything in its place
  • Store equipment, tools and materials correctly in the designated place
  • Keep fire exists, equipment and passages clears

 

Handling Chemicals

 

  • Regard all chemicals as poisonous
  • Never touch a chemical with bare hands
  • Never use chemicals from unlabelled bottles
  • Always were protective clothing when handling chemicals
  • Refer to the material safety data sheets in case of an accident, while using chemicals

 

Material Safety Data Sheets

 

These are documents that list specific information, with regard to chemicals as follows

 

  • Name/Chemical product and manufacturer name
  • Hazard identification
  • First Aid measures
  • Handling and storage
  • Exposure control/personal protection
  • Physical and chemical properties

 

Waste Management Procedures

 

  • Safety and health. Ensure that the appropriate personal protective clothing and equipment is used
  • Awareness and training. Ensuring employees are trained in the correct methods of disposal, and that they are aware of the dangers and their responsibility towards themselves and others
  • Storage facilities. Adequate lockable storage facilities, protected against the elements is available to store waste
  • Waste containers. The proper waste containers are available for the various types of waste, to prevent infection.
  • Off Site incineration. Collected and incinerated off site by an authorized contractor
